"25th Council Quilt Show"
We will be celebrating 25 years this
summer. Its amazing to think 25 years have past since that first group
of volunteers came up with the idea of hosting a quilt show to get
people to visit Council. The past 25 years have brought many
changes, both to the quilt show and to Council. We hope you will visit
us this summer. We are again open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm seven days a week.
Although we left for a few years while construction work was being done
at the Council Elementary School we are back again. The Elementary
School is located on Highway 95 as you enter Council from the south.
The building now offers us air conditioning, is handicapped accessible,
and has ample parking.. Although school is not in session, there are
many activities happening outside of the buildings and we ask that you
watch for children.
The Council area has some wonderful and
interesting shops to visit, including a wonderful fabric store called
"Pins and Needles". No trip to Council will be complete
without planning to check out this wonderful shop. The local
museum, rich in the history of the area, is open five days a week. The
surrounding areas are filled with beautiful mountains to explore, clear
streams
for fishing, and lots of wildlife to view. During the 4th of July
weekend, festivities
include our annual porcupine race, a parade, a logging contest,
and lots of
food and craft vendors. Plans are underway for a car show on the 4th as
well.
The
theme for the 2009 quilt show is “Hearts & Hands, Thimbles &
Threads: 25 Years of Quilting". Theme entries must include all
four elements; hands, hearts, thimbles, and threads.. Entries can
not have a perimeter larger than 180” total. You MUST include a brief paragraph
about your entry and why it fits the theme. This year the only special
category we are
offering is the theme category. Anything
that does not fit into the theme category will be in the general
category. All
voting will be done by Viewer's Choice.
Each entry
needs a completed entry form sent in by May 29th. If you choose
to mail your entries in this year they must also reach us by May 29th.
Entry
forms and/or quilts should be sent to Marilyn Thompson, P.O. Box 11, Council, ID 83612 or emailed to Council
Quilt Show.
Entries should be brought to the Elementary
School on Saturday June 6th and Sunday June 7th. Entries will be
accepted
from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m. each day.For your
convenience you can download our entry
form or the entire brochure
We are hosting a challenge
block contest again this year with a couple of new changes. Our
sponsor, P&B Textiles requires
that 30 % of the challenge fabric must be used in the block. The
unfinished block should be 12 1/2". The block must
follow the theme of the show and if
you buy
this years block packet and COMPLETE and RETURN it to us by May 29th,
we will
send you next years packet free of charge.
Our annual luncheon will be held on
June 13th,
with Lisa Bongean as our special
quest speaker. Lisa is a talented quilter, designer, teacher, and shop
owner. She is from Menashe, Wisconsin. Her shop is called Primitive
Gatherings . It is a great place to visit. The
luncheon
will begin at 12:00 noon and will be held at the Council Elementary
School. Reservations are required and are
going fast. Please email me for
reservations. the cost is $15.00 per person and reservations will be
